Starting new fitness program can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. When starting out, we all have our apprehensions. We have all walked into a new gym for the first time. The feeling of intimidation can cause us to put our goals aside and give up before we even start. But here's the truth: action always beats inaction.
If you are starting the 90-Day New Year Challenge with Bell City CrossFit, here is what you can expect from group class to help ease you into accomplishing your goals this year.
💥A Welcoming Community.
The best part of CrossFit is the community. We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone feels right at home. CrossFit’s magic comes from the community vibe, where we tackle challenges together, push each other to be better, and celebrate each other’s progress. Whether you are brand new or a seasoned athlete, you'll find encourage Menand motivation every step of the way. Most importantly, everyone is extremely POSITIVE.
💥 Expert Coaches.
The catalyst for that positive atmosphere is our Coaches and Trainers that take pride in what they do. Each group class is led by a qualified CrossFit Coach. Our coaches don’t just lead the class—they educate, support, and motivate. They'll walk you through the workout, explain its purpose, demonstrate each movement, and make sure you're working within your limits (while still pushing you to improve). They’ll help you develop proper technique, and if you face any challenges, they’ll create a plan to ensure you're always progressing safely and effectively. All of our coaches are certified under the CrossFit methodology and conduct monthly Coaching Development sessions to hone their skills.
💥Safety.
You may have heard that CrossFit is dangerous. Or that you have to be in shape before you start. The truth is, CrossFit is infinitely scalable. Any workout can be adjusted to fit your fitness level. Whether you're just starting out or an experienced athlete, you can get a great workout in a safe environment.
The same workout is available for everyone, but the coach will adjust the intensity and difficulty to suit your abilities. You’ll see people of all fitness levels, with different variations of the same workout, creating a truly inclusive environment. The workout on the whiteboard is the backbone of class, but it does not necessarily need to be followed to a T. There is always an option for everyone to safely and effectively get a great workout.
💥A Great Workout.
Every Group Class starts with a whiteboard brief. The group gathers around the whiteboard and the coach explains what the class is doing that particular day. There, they will explain the desired stimulus of the workout, any equipment needed, and the movements you can expect to be doing that day. Here, they will address any questions or concerns leading into the warm up.
There is always a general warmup to get the body moving, get body temperature increased, and muscles warmed up. This is followed by a specific warmup where the coach leads the class through the specific movements of that day. There is always a teaching aspect where the coach helps improve the movement of each member of their class.
Following the warmup/teaching period, most group classes have some sort of strength or skill session. Here you will see the heavy lifting or skill development of the class. Here, you will lift weights, barbells, practice gymnastics, strength training, you name it. Usually the strength/skill phase has movements in relation to the Workout Of The Day, so you have lots of time to practice leading into the workout. During this time, the coach can also help you with any scaling options you might need for the workout.
The next part of group class is the Workout Of The Day. The cornerstone of CrossFit. This is your high intensity exercise for that particular group class. You will bike, lift weights, run, jump rope, you name it! It is truly a great workout.
💥Cool-Down and High-Five's!
Afterwards are the closing remarks of class. Coaches will take you through a cool-down, some stretching, and take scores for the workout so we can better track your progress. You will high-five, fist bump, cool down, and feel ready to take on the rest of your day!
That concludes a general group class. You get to meet up with old and new friends and take on a great workout pushing you in the direction of your fitness goals.
